Paul Anderson is a partner in the financial services practice at Squire Patton Boggs and leads on financial services regulatory matters, specialising in this area for over 20 years. Having trained and practised in the City of London, Paul expanded his international experience first as international counsel at Prudential-Bache, part of US Prudential Financial, Inc and then as a partner at Squire Patton Boggs for 12 years working with colleagues across 40 offices and four continents.
Paul's interest in crypto legal matters began several years ago, acting for a client on a proposed exchange and dealing with the UK regulator. At the time, everyone was developing their thinking, and this interest has led to the area becoming an important and interesting part of the practice. As Paul frequently reminds colleagues, financial regulation is the gift that keeps on giving! Since starting his practice in the mainstream areas (e.g., banking, insurance and investments), seeing a whole new virtual currency-regulated ecosystem emerge and working with clients to understand and implement new regulation as it emerges present exciting times.
Paul and his colleagues look forward to new law and regulation and are not scared of them. Clients and participants talk of applying mainstream financial services governance, credit, trading and custody practices to virtual currency – the gift of financial regulation can only assist that to happen!
